Sweet car!! My dad had a 68 Monterey and we still have it but its badly deteriated. Tougher to find Montereys around these days so you'd better keep it for along time. good luck with your ride!

Nice ride! When I bought my 72 Monterey, I found a customer copy of the original sales contract and it shows that the original owner of my 72 traded in a 66 like yours. I was curious about the 66's because of that. I actually have the original owners manual and warranty card and some other stuff too. Interesting stuff. Anyway, good luck with yours and keep us posted on your progress. Check out my ride some time.

Sami, here's some help on the 390 "Special". The 390 with the automatic trans was rated at 275 hp and 405 ft/lbs of torque. The manual trans engine had 265 and 401. That's why the auto trans engine is the "special" version. Here's a valuable link-- http://www.mercurystuff.com/#1966
I made the mistake of selling my '66 Monterey in 2000...after being in the family since new! My dad bought it in '66 and it was my first car (sound familiar?) in 1976. I regret the decision to sell it so much I'm trying to find it again, if not to buy it back, at least see it again. Keep yours so you'll have no regrets. Post updates so we can see your progress. I'm excited for you!

Yeah, thanks. Hopefully I'll at least get some 20's soon, but probably at least a few months, but I'll try to keep you posted.

And...I called you bro. I had not looked very closely at your page, so I apologize for that. Anyhow, keep me updated on what you've got going. It will be a sweet ride when you're finished!

Thanks, bro. I just got it Saturday. It's only got 80k miles on it, and I bought it for $600, and you can see what kind of shape it's in, so you can assume that I got a steal. It's got the 400 in it. I'm not much with motors though, so I can't be great on specifics. I appreciate the compliments though!
Yours is rad though. I'll be glad to see it all hopped up.

Thanks for checking out my page. Right now the Merc is just sitting. We got it in 2000 for $500 just as something to drive when my truck was in the shop. We have a new truck now so we really don't have any need for it, it just sits and we can't decide exactly what to do with it.

Thanks for checking out my Cougar. That's a great car you have! Interior looks excellent too. Where did ya find it? Gas is gonna be a killer on your wallet if your planning on using it for your daily transportation. I only take my Cougar out for fun when the weather is nice. I'm planning on keeping it stock, replacing a few things here and there, no rush. Got my first car show on April 29. I got the car last October off ebay and shipped it cross country. If ya ever need parts check out www.dearbornclassics.com
Good Luck!

Try disconnecting the trailer - That should help with your performance on hills :-) OK seriously that is a sweet ride. Update your page and let us know when you get it running right, with a carb kit or whatever. It's always interesting to see what it takes to solve a problem.

Hey the problem for sure sounds like fuel. When you cleaned the tank did you put an inline fuel filter? Might check any rubber fuel line areas and replace those areas. Check fuel pump pressure. Just thoughts. Thanks for checking my T Bucket page and signing my guest book. Good luck with your ride.

Cool old car. I love the body lines. The first day we owned our 66 mustang we put reg unleaded in it and it ran fine at first but then kept chuggin and even stalled a few times. Filled it with premium and never had troubles again. Could that be it or do you think it's something more serious? I have to run premium or higher in my cuda too, she's finicky. 5 stars to ya, enjoy it. Check out my cuda and rate it sometime if you like it.
