Hey Shirley
Yeah 22 mph used to be considered pretty good.
........Not anymore
I got my Elantra last September and Hyundai was having a tough time selling them so they offered $1,000 cash back. It is a phenomenal car. It came loaded with 6 airbags, free XM radio for 3 months, an ipod hook-up, fog lights, vanity mirrors, heated rearview mirror, fold down rear seats all standard. the trunk is big, the interior is bigger than one would expect, very peppy, minimal wind noise. The quality of the materials and fit and finish is way up, It's an all new design. Very comfortable to drive. I think it is comparable to a Honda.
The car after the $1,000 cash back only cost me $15,400 brand new
And the warranty is unheard of! 10 years 100,000 on the power train 5 years bumper to bumper but you could opt for bumper to bumper for 100,00 miles for 1,200 extra. I am averaging 35 mph highway!!!
Only a Toyota Prius Hybrid gets better milage.
I think in the coming months with the rising price of gas you are gonna see more Elantra's on the road.

Hey there Shirley
Well it looks like all your messages got posted, I guess your persistence payed off! LOL!
You are so lucky to be married to a Mechanic! I hold my breath every time I take the Cougar out in the hopes everything works and I don't break down anywhere!
I don't know if the price of Gas plays that much of a role in the Classic Car Market as of yet. These cars are just driven to shows mostly. If Gas climbs past $5.00 a gallon for regular(and my car needs 93 Octane to run right so we're talking even higher $$$) than we may have a very big problem. I was reading that if the price of a barrel of Oil keeps climbing at it's current rate and hits the $2.00 mark then prices will keep rising dramatically at the pump. We may see $5.00 as soon as Labor Day!!! If ya combine the situation of the Dollar dropping, Demand rising with China and India which are both having their own Industrial Revolutions at the same time, OPEC refusing to increase production, Inflation rising etc.....
We are really in for it.
I traded in my Olds Alero last September for a new Hyundai Elantra that gets 30-35 MPH. My SUV stays parked in the driveway!LOL!
I don't take any long driving trips anymore and I take my bicycle out more these days for recreation.
That's the world we have to get used to I'm afraid, I may be spending more time polishing the old Cougar than driving her.

Hi Shirley
Good to here from you
Wow a 429? What kinda shape is it in?
I gave up selling my Cougar for a while cause I don't want it to be posted too long in the paper, then people will get the idea that I'll drop the price really low cause I can't get rid of it and plus the fact that I keep spending money to list it in the paper.
internet ads have gotten zero response so I don't bother with them anymore.
I just can't figure out why it's so hard to sell??? I'm asking $7,400 but willing to take $6,800. What baffles me is that Mustangs are so much more $$ yet people are paying for those, They are just more desirable, maybe the Cougar has an old man stigma to them.
But this car is so rare and so reasonable for it's condition...............
I just put Historic Plates on it, Looks cooler now. Took it out the last 2 weekends and it's running great!
A real drag.................I have to fill the tank with premium which as you know is really high $ at this point. The car knocks if I use Regular. So I'm keeping the driving to a minimum. Not gonna take it out to too many shows this summer.
In fact, I'm not going anywhere to speak of until gas prices cool off which may never happen at this point.
Think I'll be doing a lot of walking and maybe canoeing for recreation
You have a lot of cars! how do ya maintain them without going broke?
I'm tight with expendable cash and don't have any mechanical skills to speak of, so any little thing I have done by a pro. shop is $$$$$ and that's why I'm trying to unload it.
Well good luck Shirley!

Group Bulletin from ~ Femme Fatale ~: Hey ladies, let me know if the background is working for you. It works for me in Mozilla Firefox but not in Internet Explorer..unless I click edit and then it shows up..go figure. Either way, let me know and I will work on getting it straightened out. Thanks for your patience. (the background should be a tiled reddish/burgandy texture)

We are ranked 14th out of 4,136 groups on Cardomain...that says something for us women!!! That's good news Shirley
Your Mustang looks great!
So what are your plans for the other cars in your stable?
Are ya gonna fix the Buick up? Keep it Stock or hot rod it out?
I personally like them original, their rare enough ya know.
I don't know if I'll be showing my Cougar much. I don't really want to put the miles on it. It had 63,500 when I got it in October '06 and I've put 3,000 oon it. Maybe a few local crise nights in the area. It's gonna be 60 degrees tomorrow, hope it stays warm for a while.
