Dude, I did the same exact thing with the duct work and you'll soon find out that it tears like crazy. What I did was ran over to Target and in either the lawn and garden or pluming isle you'll find some black plastic type duct work and I think it's 3" wide so you won't have to kink it as much. Check mine out on the engine page of my ride and let me know if it works better for you.

as far as intakes go, you can very easily fab up your own. i bought an integra kit and cut the pipes to fit in my old mx3. then i ducted it behind the headlight. i would imagine that the engine bay is similar to yours.

Sadly, no one makes an intake kit for my 626 (the 1998-2002 edition), and the earlier ones (for 1993-1997) do not fit around the front cross members. I'm looking into maybe crafting something out of plumbing pipe that I can fit a filter on the end of, but it's not that big a concern. She still runs good, and that's what matters!

hey dude if u want more air in your engine u should order a "cold air intake kit" get a straight, then a 45 degree (an elbow), then a down pipe. Make sure that the are is aluminum so that the cold air spirals into the manifold straight to your air valves any brand that you prefer AEM , K&N , Injen , etc.
(just don't drive it in deep puddles bcuz your air intake will suck in water) Mazda626Sleeper hey check my page out
nice ride u need more pics peace

Mine's a stick - that's the reason I jumped on it when I saw it. (Would have gotten a Protege otherwise.) I'll ask you to come check out www.mazdaworld.org if you have a chance!
