Hi George
Very nice 57 Starchief! I bought one new in 57 same color only reversed on the car. Yours seems to have the same options as mine.
Although mine also had Tri-power and am not sure yours has the leather interior. I also added a contintal kit. Take care of that beautiful car.

I was five years old when my dad decided to buy a new '57 Pontiac. He brought home an exact duplicate of your car as a test driver for a few days. I had already fallen in love with cars before this but the sight of this car in our driveway created an impression that is still with me over fifty years later. We lived in Atlanta then and the selling dealer was Boomershine Pontiac. After a few days, I heard him tell my mother that he had decided to buy the car. I was thrilled at the prospect of this beautiful car as a replacement for our plain-jane '51 Buick Special.
Later that day, he came home with his new '57 Pontiac. It was an aqua and white Chieftain with aqua wheels and dog-dish hubcaps. I was crushed. He said the Star Chief was too expensive and the Chieftain was the "same car". Yeah, right! I never liked the Chieftain and always yearned for a Star Chief like he brought home.....a Star Chief just like yours.
Thank you for bringing back such a pleasant and yet painful memory at the same time. I LOVE your car!

Awesome car! My first car was a '57 Starchief. My dad bought it for $2.00 (that's right--$2.00) from an elderly family friend who could no longer drive. I was absolutely mortified until the first day I drove it and all the boys in my high school wanted to look it over!! Not exactly what my dad had in mind.

This car is the best 57 Pontiac I've found on the internet. My Mother and Dad bought me this exact car (new) in 1957. They took me (as a surprise) to a local Pontiac garge in Chareroi, PA and told me to choose one of five 1957 Pontiac's they had at the dealership. There were several Cheifton's, one Super Chief, a Star Chief Convertible and one that looks just like yours (same colors - inside and out). I chose the one that looked like yours after I raised the hood and noticed three wing nuts on the air cleaner. I knew what it was (tri-power) - my parents didn't. I kept the car until 1963 when, for whatever reason I traded it on a new car - big mistake and I'm still kicking my self today. I really enjoyed looking at your pictures - brings back many, many good memories of being a teenager in the 50's and having a "hot" car. Lots of luck and keep that car forever - give it to your kids, or ship it to me in Georgia.

I have been searching for my first car. I lived in Dallas, Texas in the 1960's. In those days you could drive at age 14! My dad purchased a 1957 Pontiac Starchief in about 1963 from a rural family outside of Dallas. the car had almost no mileage on it at that time. My mom and I shared the car until 1967 when we traded it to Van Winkle Pontiac in Dallas for a 1967 GTO. I was a typical teenager and had striped the various tubes in the engine bay orange and black to represent the tiger theme used by Pontiac back then. When we traded the car it still had very little mileage. I believe that one of the Pontiac mechanics actually purchased it from the dealer. Does any of this history match with your car? By the way, it's a beautiful car! (kmbriegel@aol.com)
