The 14 is definately referred to as stronger. you are right. But when it comes to weight, shaft size, and housing size when building a rig...I just like the 60's. And the hydro definately take stress off the steering components, you are right. And if you do the setup right the first time you should be fine, I've just always had problems with the assist. And when we put full hydro on the other jeeps we couldn't even drove it on the road. Maybe if we changed the valves on the pump we could. And one more thing is that my steering is probably the weakest point of my ZJ. Thats why we are experimenting on the green XJ to get the hydro right. My suspension holds.....it just sways ALOT on the road. Especially around 80-85mph. But I agree with you Mike.

I'd say the 14FF is stronger than a D60, but it is heavier and a bit bigger. The new 14FF is comparable to a D80.
Hydro assist is nice cause it takes a lot of the stress off steering components.
I like to have steering and suspension beefy- there are other people on the roads too.

And for hydro assist, it's great if you wheel alot or crawl alot. But for daily driving I don't recommend it. I've seen way too many problems come from that. Actually if you look on my page both the green XJ and the red CJ have full hydro steering set-up's so they do work. BUt mainly off road. You may just want to beef up your steering pump and steering box to turn the tires. AGR makes a good setup. As for knowing things...I definately don't know everything but I was a outside sales rep for 4-wheel parts wolesalers and did suspension design for them as well. I've made tons and tons of mistakes, especially on my own rigs. But I learned form them all and enjoy the trial and error. I think that anyone who thinks they can go out and build a rig that wil have no problems is crazy.

Hey man, There really are no problems with the axles. One of the best parts about going with the 60 in the front is the fact that you can keep making your truck bigger over time and not have to swap axles again. As for the 14 bolt rear...That's fine but if you ae going to wheel alot then you might as well get the 60. It's smaller, lighter, stronger. As for mikey79, he is actually alright. I just don't see the point in coming straight into somones page and insulting there rig. I mean find out the particulars and specs and make suggestions but don't insult and talk like your ride is better. Just be nice. He would be better as a friend than an enemy, but he just needs to realize that we arent here to insult, but here to help and wheel together. PERIOD.

I have to agree with what mike is saying. But, 60's are more expensive to play with. With a 6cyl the 44 will do fine but the tire size is what sould scare me. You should definately try the moser shafts. They are great. As for the hydro-assist steering..it's good but when I ran it on my Z-71 I had a few problems. As for the 14 rear..they are cheap and easy. You can even cut off part of the rear diff housing to get about a inch or two more ground clearance. As for Mikeyg79....man you may know your stuff, so just be nice and you will make friends that may end up helping you in the long run. Cool?

You got the height now, save some $$ and just keep the leafs. I think I've heard of the 60 being changed to 6lug- not sure about the 14FF though- just swap to 8 lug wheels.
I want to go to long arms and like 7" or 8" on the ZJ- Maine sucks for lift laws, not sure what I can get away with.

mikeyg79 I wanted to go with a 4 link coilover suspension but a buddy told me its fine the way it is go axle swap.So now I'm here, hey the 60 can be changed to six lug but what is the scoop on the 14? can't forget lockers either.hydro assists sounds sweet also.so what are the future plans on your rig?gotta jet now have an assignment due now that I just finished, been hopping back and forth here.later

That would be a sweet swap- 14FF are fairly easy to find, cheap and bomb proof. I doubt you'd ever break either one with a 6cyl.
