Your car is a credit to you. My very first car back in 1984 was a Lada 1200. Very similar in styling (if not identical) to yours. Have many fond memories of it. One of the things I remember most is the brilliant heaters!

I know what you mean about your car being a memory of your Granpa. I, too, have a memory in a car. My '69 Lincoln was bought new by my great uncle (my mother's uncle) and given to me after his death just before my great aunt succumbed to Alzheimer's.
It's great that you drive your car and use it the way you do. I know it's a different country, but my wife has visited (in fact she's flying back today! :)) in Ukraine and she tells me a lot about the vehicles. She doesn't know the names but could she be speaking of Lada's? The father of the family she stayed with works on cars and has a little car that has been described to sound like this.
Stop by and check out my Lincoln.
Again, great car.
P.S. I also have a Vovlo wagon....be sure to look at it, too!

Nice looking Lada. I really like the color. Looks like your restoration paid off. I had to look at this car as my friend, who happens to be from your city, used to talk about Russian cars with me. I hear they're beasts in the snow. Anyway, keep up the good work. Check out my garage if you get a chance. Later.

heres how it should look on my car (made with photoshop cs):

guess i'll just use the rear light laquer, and create a two-tone from the old glasses, black and red combined...

i've seen some pics of lexus-style rear lights too, but they're too ricey & japanese-looking for my car i think... they're also expensive - i've heard of prices around ~4000 roubles a pair, and thats too much. i'm intrested in replaceable glasses, like your friends 06 has, entirely white like those or just the indicator section white like the reverse light and the rest stock-red. i've seen some mods made by cutting and glueing 07 glasses, but it's precision work and needs to be glued perfectly, otherwise it looks just crap.

wanted to ask you another question: you have blurred every pic of licence plates on your "doublekopeika", but are those the ancient black soviet ones? my uncles moskvits had those ('80) but my ziguli ('82) didn't have those even in soviet days. so are those plates original from '76?
btw, cool that your volvo has soviet plates:)

by the way: where did your friend get those white rear lights? are there any available for 05 perhaps?
