Hello again from Minnesota, thanks for your reply. The gauges aren't in the dash yet, as of last friday, the dash had the holes cut on each outboard end for round A/C vents. The starter button will be just under the left side vent, right about where it was from the factory. The A/C controls will be under the speaker grill in the center. That area was already screwed up from the previous owner who had modified this car. The two ashtrays will be vertical A/C vents. My builder thinks the stereo would look good in an overhead console. There is plenty of room under the dash for the Vintage Air A/C unit, and it looks like I'll still have a complete glovebox. I can't find the receipt right now, but I think I bought the gauges from Classic Instruments. It will be a round speedo in the center with a round gauge on either side; oil, temp, volts, fuel. I'll have to take some more pics and figure out how to post them on the site. I'll keep you posted with further progress updates in the future. Stay tuned! Later, Jim

Hello from Minnesota! Nice car! I own a 39' Mercury Town Sedan that should be on the road in a few months. It has a rebuilt 302 & C4, Heidts/Fat Man M II front end, new Lime Works wheel & column, Lokar shifter, Vintage Air A/C & heat, new gauges in original dash, Master Power Brakes dual chamber master cylinder and suspended pedal, new Explorer disk brake rear end, Tanks Inc. poly gas tank with the filler inside the trunk inside it's own box. I'm going for a retro-stock look with all modern drivetrain and suspension. By the way, it did not have a Flathead in it when I bought it 3 years ago. Good luck with your car & maybe you can make it to the Back To The 50's in June. Can you post some more pics of the car? Thanks, Jim L.

WOW. Talk about dream cars that is one of my top cars to ever own. I hope you do it the justice it deserves, because you have one of the baddest rides that was ever produced.

I'm glad to see that someone else is working on a 39 merc also. I bought a complete matching 1 owner out of a barn and have spent the past 2 years working on the resto. I would look at the project one of two ways. 1. If you have a complete matching #'s car, do a resto, no mods. If most of the car is gone hot rod it. If you have any questions just ask. I've researched the car to death... Brian

AWESOME MERC! You really got a good start. 39' Mercs are so rare and yours is in exceptional shape! I love the old flattie. DONT WASTE THIS CAR AND MAKE IT ONE OF THOSE BILLETIZED STREET RODS! Make it into 50's custom man. It's alot cheaper and easier to do, and for a 39' merc its the only way to go. The ratrods are back. Check out my bronco and 1951 Ford pickup sometime and let me know what ya think. Later man!

Hey man nice project, I think it would be cool to make it a retro 50s custom, with a mix of modern street rod. Do some old 50s stuff and do some modern stuff. Just my opinion, but I think it would look cool. Good luck man, come check out my '79 Monte

I say do what you want. But, i would basicly do the "hidden upgrades" thing. It's simple you do the whole make it look "stock" but, give it power disc brakes, a 12 volt elec. system and better seats. You can do all this and still keep that stock look. I have to say thou I'm toren about that engine , you're right of course nothing sounds like a hopped up Flat head. I prefer the trouble free modern engines thou. Good luck , you have some hard choices ahead . Later man
