In response to 95AudiA6, there were in fact 97 S6's sold in North America. They were sold in Canada only. A handful (about a dozen) of 97 urS6's were officially imported to the US, including my car. Feel free to check my cardomain page. You are right, in that the urS4/S6 was produced from 1992 to 1997, but only sold in the US through 1995. So, there are plenty of 97's in Canada, and a few in the US.

they also started making them in 2001 but that was based on the c5 A6 platform, and only came in wagons with a V8 ans auto only, and is a completely different car from yours.
