What is a CarDomain group?

Any CarDomain member can create a free group on CarDomain. Every group on CarDomain includes a discussion forum, a customizable group home page, and a member listing page.

What are the group features?

All groups on CarDomain are absolutely free and easy to create. The following features are provided:

• Host discussion forums in your group
• Create a group home page, which can contain any number of pages
• Directory of group members
• Leave your group open to the public, or you decide who can join
• Free inclusion in the CarDomain group directory

How do I leave a group?

After logging into your account, click on the "Manage My Groups" link in the left navigation bar. Select the groups you’d like to leave and click on the blue "Leave Selected" button.

How do I join a group?

There are two ways to join a group. From the main groups page you can click on the orange "join" link or on the group home page you can click on the "Join This Group" link located in the left navigation bar.

Why can’t I leave a group?

The leave group command is disabled if you are the owner of the group.

How can I search for a group?

Go to the main groups page and fill out the search box at the top of the page. Enter anything you’d like to search for: make, model, year, location, or group activity. The results page will display a list of groups that match your search.

Where can I find a list of group members?

Go to the group home page and click on the "Members" link in the left navigation bar.

How do I create my own group?

Log into your CarDomain account. If you don’t have one, then go here to register for a free account. Once logged in, go to the create group page here. Enter in a unique group name, a brief summary, and you’re done!

How many groups can I create?

You can create up to 3 groups on CarDomain

What is the difference between a public and a private group?

A private group is closed to the general public. Anyone can apply to enter the group, but only the group’s owner can approve entry. Anybody can join a public group.

The owner of a group can set the group to either public or private. This is done at the time of group creation, or can be done at any time via the group administration center.

How do I manage my group?

You must be logged into your account to manage a group. Once logged in, the “Group Admin Center” will appear on the left navigation bar displayed on home page and forum pages for your group.

How do I ban members from my group?

You must be logged in as the group owner account to ban members from your group. Once logged in, the "Group Admin Center" will appear on the left navigation bar displayed on home page and forum pages for your group. Select the "Ban List" option to manage the ban list. Users on the ban list will be immediately removed from the group, and will not be allowed to join the group.

How do I let users into my private group?

A user has to apply to join your group by clicking on the "apply" link from the group home page.

What happens when I convert a public group to a private one?

Once a group is set to private, any new members will be asked to apply for membership when they attempt to join the group. The group owner can review the applications from the "join requests" page in the administration center.

What happens when I convert a private group to a public one?

Once a group is set to public, any pending join requests will be automatically approved. New members will automatically join the group upon request.

How do I get rid of the "Group Under Construction!" picture?

The under construction photo is displayed for any group home page that has not been customized. To customize the group home page, the group’s owner needs to be logged into their account and click on the "Home Page Editor" link that is located on the left navigation bar displayed on the group’s home page.

How do I upload a photo for my group home page?

Go to the Home Page Editor, and at the top of the page select the "browse" button to select a photo from your computer. Once selected, click on the "upload picture" button. It may take a few minutes to upload your photo, depending on the file size and the speed of your Internet connection. Once uploaded, the photo will appear in the photo gallery on the page.

How do I add a photo to my group home page?

First, upload a photo to add it to your photo gallery. This can be done from the Home Page Editor. Then, double click on the photo to add it to the bottom of your home page.

How do I delete one of my groups?

The owner of a group can permanently delete a group at any time. Just log into your account, go to the "General Admin" page, and select the delete group open at the bottom of the page. Warning! A group cannot be undeleted!

How do I change the background color of a page on my groups site?

Assuming you are the site owner, it's easy to change the background color of the pages on your site, although it will require you to manually edit some HTML code. From the Home Page Editor, select the page you'd like to edit and then click the HTML button. To change the background color for the entire page to red, for example, add the following text at the top of the HTML area:

To change it to any other color, replace the word red with another color name. For more advanced color control, use the Hex value or color name listed here.

How do I add a background image to my page?

Just like adding a background color above, you’ll need to add some HTML code. From the Home Page Editor, select the page you’d like to edit and then click the HTML button. To add a background image, add the following text at the top of the HTML area:

Add the following text at the bottom of the HTML area:

Be sure to replace the ADDRESS HERE text with the address of the image you want to use.

How do I add video to one of my groups pages?

Most video sharing sites will list an address next to their videos that you will need in order to add them to one of your pages. This address is called different things in different places (embed or embeddable player, video code, etc.) but most major sites are supported. Copy the address listed for the video you’d like, click the HTML button on one of your pages, and paste the address in. Depending on where on the page you paste the code, the video will appear above, below, or in the middle of the other elements on the page. Be sure not to add it in the middle of another element as you may cause the page to display incorrectly.

Can I do other things to my groups pages?

You can give it a try. If you know HTML or feel like learning, there are many tags you can use to do things to your groups pages. Some will not work for technical or security reasons, but feel free to click the HTML button and experiment!

How do I post to a forum?

You have to be a member of a group to post to a forum. You can join a group by clicking on the "Join This Group" link in the left navigation bar. Once joined, you can post to an existing topic within the forum by clicking on the orange

How do I add a forum?

Only the group owner can add a forum. Just go to the group home page and click on the "forum" link in the left navigation bar, then click on the orange "add forum" button.

How do I add a topic to a forum?

Only a group member can add a topic (discussion) to a forum. Just select a forum and then click on the orange "add topic" button at the top of the topic listing page.

How do I add an image to my post?

You can add an image several ways. If you just want to link to an image, you can type the address into your post and it will appear as a link. If you want the actual image to appear, use the following text:
<IMG SRC="ADDRESS HERE">
Of course, make sure you replace the "ADDRESS HERE" text with the address of your image!

How do I make a forum topic sticky?

A sticky topic is always displayed at the top of the listing of forum topics, and can only be set by the group owner. The group owner can set the sticky either at the time the topic is created, or can edit an existing topic and set the topic to sticky.

How do I lock a forum topic?

A "locked" topic does not allow any more posts to be added, edited, or deleted. The group owner can lock a topic either at the time the topic is created, or can edit an existing topic and set the topic to locked.

How can I disable my group’s forum?

By default a group is created with no discussion forums. If forums already exist, the group owner can delete each forum until none remain.

How to I report inappropriate content found on a group?

Offensive groups can be reported to our Community Administrator. Inappropriate forum posts can be reported to the group owner.

Is there a support forum where I can ask questions?
