Talladega Race Weekend

Event Date: Apr. 26, 2008

Photos and Text: Jen Dunnaway

Talladega: perhaps the most legendary stop on the NASCAR circuit, the one that invokes the most authentic, proud and unrepentant Southern roots of the sport. The track itself is a monster: at 2.66 miles, it's NASCAR's longest track, and the speeds the cars can attain on the straightaways were once enough to send them spinning into the air. Now, with restrictor plates and the safe stable Car of Tomorrow, superspeedway racing isn't as deadly as it once was. But to see those cars roar past inches from the grandstands at speeds approaching 200 mph is like nothing else in motorsports, and fans and drivers alike are always on edge for The Big One, that epic wreck that can change history. Check out our gallaries of both Saturday's Aaron's 312 and Sunday's big Sprint Cup race, the Aaron's 499. We've also got extensive photodocumentation of Talledega's International Motorsports Hall of Fame, a racing museum housing a totally mind-blowing collection of stock cars, NHRA dragsters, land-speed racers, gassers, SCCA cars, and other cool rides, race-winners and record-setters all. And what would NASCAR be without its fans? Check out our fan gallary for some of the faces and rides of this awesome race weekend! And don't forget to check out all of our trackside coverage in the blog!
